- Carry minimum. Carrying only essential items to minimize risk of losing your items.
- Extra caution when rushing. People tend to forget their belongings and lose when they
rush (or have intense emotion).
- Keep essential and valuables in your hand baggage instead of check-in baggage while air
travelling.
- Secure your items at security checkpoint: many items are left and forgotten at the
airport security checkpoints.
- Inventory. If you carry many items, especially while traveling, a list of your
possession may help you prevent loss. For example, passport, cell phone, camera, memory
cards, PDA, portable music player, address book, wallet, air ticket, maps, keys, toiletry,
sunglasses, book, gift. You may keep this list inside your wallet for easy lookup.
- Make it easier for finders. Most lost items are not returned to the owner because
finders can not contact the rightful owner. Label your belongings with Inspice Warning labels or ID labels. You
can get free labels for a limited quantity from Inspice.
Or you can print it on your own. Then activate SmartProtec, which allows you to register your items. The warning
labels are also effective in theft deterrence. Inspice provides rewards to finders. In
case, you write down you name and address as well as phone number. Please be aware of
identity theft.
- Utilize location tracking and data destruction technology. Sensitive data may be stored
in some commonly used portable electronic devices such as laptops and USB flash drives.
Protecting the data may be a bigger concern than protecting the device itself. You can
track the location and destroy the data when your laptop lost or stolen if installed Inspice Trace program.
Some flash drives have tracking and data
destruction features built-in such as trackable LG flash drive.
- Insurance: airline may reimburse your loss while air travel. Some homeowner's or
renter's insurance, credit card companies and travel agencies offer loss coverage at no
extra cost.
